Stepping into Diane’s Northern Virginia home was a like stepping into another world. I had been warned that it would be amazing. But I could not have prepared myself for what I was about to see. 45 Christmas trees. Decorations from head to toe. The attention to detail was unparalleled. I was transformed into a Christmas dream. I would get to photograph this? There was an entire room dedicated to nutcrackers. A nutcracker room! I could have done an entire photo session in just this room. I couldn’t believe my luck!
Diane’s daughter had contacted me about photographing her mom’s decorations since this was likely the last year her mom would be in the home before moving to Florida. The family wanted everything documented. I was happy to oblige.
Each Christmas tree had its own theme – USA, Santa Claus, reindeer, nutcrackers, garden, 12 Days of Christmas, snowmen, Around the World, tropical, Peanuts, Goodnight Moon, Clemson University, dogs, hot chocolate, and love to name a few. Every tree was filled with dozens of themed ornaments and decorations surrounding it. Diane had built up a quite a collection over the years, and would host many social events during the holidays to share her Christmas love with family and friends.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get better, it started snowing during the session. Yes, this experience in Vienna would never be topped! The joy and magic that came from this home warmed my heart. I’m so grateful I could photograph this incredible display of Christmas spirit!
