I have been extremely honored to photograph the Bacon Brothers’ drop-in performances for four years in a row.  The band comes to Alexandria every summer to perform amazing concerts at the Birchmere.  When they’re not rocking in front of sold-out crowds, they spend their free time doing good in the local community.  Led by Kevin Bacon and his brother Michael, they connect people and causes through Kevin’s top-rated non-profit SixDegrees.org.  This summer the Bacon Brothers made a surprise appearance and sang Footloose at Shop Made In DC to raise money for Pathways to Housing DC. The Bacon Brothers and SixDegrees.org are always making a meaningful difference in local communities wherever they go!

Pathways to Housing DC uses a simple Housing First model that has proven to be extremely successful. 92% of people remain in housing successfully in their program. This fantastic organization strives to end homelessness and assist with recovery efforts for people with complex health challenges. The amazing bucket drummer Wendell Wills spent 30 years on the streets until Pathways helped him get a home. If you are looking for a fantastic organization that literally saves lives, please consider supporting Pathways to Housing DC.  And if you haven’t visited Shop Made In DC, you must! It is the coolest store dedicated to the DC maker community.  All of the items and food in the store are made by local creatives.  Thanks to SixDegrees.org, these two organizations came together to benefit the community in a big way!

I can’t stop without mentioning that I got to ride on the tour bus with the band to this event. Um, what an experience of a lifetime! Now I know understand what their song “Bus” is all about! The guys are so down-to-earth and funny. It was a privilege hanging out and photographing them on the way to this drop-in gig. I’m humbled and grateful to support the efforts of the band and their non-profit work.
