I don’t do editorial work very often, so I was thrilled to photograph the cover story for the November 2019 issue of Golf Course Industry Magazine. It was such an honor, and I enjoyed learning about the award-winning turf management program at Brentsville District High School. Run by Drew Miller, this agricultural vocational program at the Nokesville, Virginia, high school is extremely popular, with about 200 out of 1000 students participating.

The students not only manage the school’s football field, but they do internships in the community, including at a local golf club. Many interns strive to be golf course superintendents. It is easy to see why Drew Miller is so beloved by his students. He gives his kids the trust and the space they need to learn. He also preaches strong communication and teamwork.  The Turfgrass Tigers are certainly making waves, not just in Virginia but across the country!  To read the full article written by Lee Carr, click here.  It was definitely worth waking up at 5am and driving an hour in the dark!  I loved combining photojournalistic photography with a little personal branding.  And to wind up with the cover story is a dream come true!  I hope I can do some more of this in the future.  Thank you GIE Media!
